Patco Starting Two Years of Track Work on Ben Franklin Bridge
By David Madden
CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) -- Work is about to get started on a two-year, $103-million project to replace 30-year-old rails that take the Patco high-speed line over the Benjamin Franklin Bridge.
Riders might want to get themselves acquainted with new schedules that take effect tomorrow, because there will be delays.
Weekends will see gaps in service that could run up to 30 minutes. And by "weekend" we're talking midday Fridays through early Tuesday mornings. But you may not really feel that until next weekend, given the MLK holiday this coming Monday.
However, that's far from the end of things.
"In the spring, we'll actually be going to one track, seven days a week, 24 hours a day, for approximately two months," says Patco spokesman Tim Ireland. "And that pattern of weekend track outages, followed by a month or a few weeks or a couple of weeks of 24/7 track outages, will continue on and off over the next two years."
Confusing? Yes. But if you check those new schedules, in the stations or online, you'll be able to time your trip accordingly.
