Toomey, Casey Talk Job Creation During Tour Of Navy Yard
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Senators Bob Casey and Pat Toomey toured the Philadelphia Navy Yard yesterday afternoon to get a first-hand account on jobs being created there.
The senators are here while Congress is on a two spring break. They spent a sunny afternoon getting an up close look at some of the businesses that now call the Navy Yard Home. Toomey says access to transportation is part of the appeal.
"Driven by this unique combination of proximity to Center City, proximity to the airports, to RR tracks, to highways."
Casey and Toomey are on opposite sides of the political aisle, but they agree the city wins when employers move in and create jobs.
"This region and commonwealth are ready for the future because it's being invented by a place like the Navy Yard," Casey said.
Right now 7,500 people go to work in the Navy Yard. At full capacity, officials say it could house 20,000.
