Passyunk Ave. Resurfacing Begins, Expected To Take 2 Months

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --
Roadwork began today on a busy stretch of Passyunk Avenue in South Philadelphia.
The resurfacing project will take about two months, with daily lane closures on the 5½-mile stretch of Passyunk Avenue between Essington Avenue and Broad Street.
"Over the next two months crews are going to be resurfacing this worn out section of Passyunk Avenue," says Penndot spokesman Charles Metzger, who notes that it's a busy stretch that carries about 34,000 cars a day.
"It's what we call arterial roadway, so it does have heavier traffic counts," he tells KYW Newsradio.
Metzger says there will be overnight lane closures on Thursday and Friday of this week, but most of the work will be done druing the day, with daily lane closures from 7am to 4pm.
"This is to help mitigate the effect it has on local residents," he says.
It's a $1.2-million project, 80 percent federally funded and the rest from the state.
