Passengers Brace For Long Security Lines At Airport
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The security line inched along at Philadelphia International Airport, the memory of Friday's terror threat still fresh on passengers' minds.
"How can you not be scared?" asked Ginger Lane rhetorically before catching a flight to Fort Lauderdale.
On Friday, authorities kept two UPS flights on the ground in Philadelphia, searching for suspicious packages. The TSA gave the all clear here, but found an ink cartridge on a UPS flight in England, coated in an explosive material and filled with wires and syringes. They found a similar device on a FedEx flight in Dubai. They said the packages came from al-Qaida in Yemen.
"On Friday, I issued an order which put a ground hold on any packages coming out of Yemen, coming to the U.S. on any shipper or on any passenger flights," said TSA Administrator John Pistole.
The TSA said they have not added any additional security measures for passengers in light of the suspicious packages, but the security level is already high as is.
"I think the security is necessary," said Gordon Ziegler, about to catch a flight to West Palm Beach. "We'll just have to deal with it."
"I'm usually the one that gets stopped and held up and they go through everything and they pat me down," laughed Diane Oden after coming in from Louisiana, "but smooth sailing [this time]."
UPS released a statement saying, "We work routinely with security agencies all over the world to maintain and enhance security as well. We don't discuss our measures publicly for the exact reason of keeping them secure. The fact that the suspect packages were flagged is evidence that the system works."
The TSA said they have no immediate plans to lift the ban on packages coming in from Yemen.
