Part Of Major Route Through Port Richmond Closed This Weekend

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A major thoroughfare in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia will be closed throughout the weekend and drivers will have to use posted detours to get around through Monday morning.
A stretch of Richmond Street between Lehigh Avenue and Somerset Street is affected by the closure. PennDOT's Gene Blaum says a big job is the reason.
"The removal of an overhead Conrail bridge above Richmond Street. There's two Conrail bridges that will be removed as part of PennDOT's $91.3 million improvement project that is upgrading Richmond Street, Girard Avenue and other local streets in and around the I-95 Girard Avenue interchange."
He says crews will be back next weekend, too. "The second Conrail bridge over Richmond Street, which is located near the intersection of Somerset Street, is right now scheduled to be removed the weekend of April 12 through the 15th. That will also require a weekend long closure of Richmond Street."
Lehigh, Aramingo and Allegheny avenues will be posted as detour streets for the next two weekends.
