Parking Authority Announces New Parking Regulations For Scooter Owners
By Mike Dougherty
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Parking Authority has announced new parking regulations for scooter owners.
Scooter owners in the city will soon be able to apply for a residential parking permit, similar to the one car owners are issued. For $35 a year, owners are allowed to park their scooter outside their house or apartment on the sidewalk, as long it's not in a commercial district.
Deputy executive director Richard Dickson says the PPA is having dozens of secure corrals built that will be set up in commercial areas.
"That will be $120 a quarter that will permit the scooters to park in any of these locations throughout the day without having to pay a separate meter."
Riders can also buy a day pass, for $5 a day, if they only need occasional parking business districts. The PPA is working on a system to have the day passes available for purchase online.
The new rules take effect in January. Scooter owners are encouraged to request locations for the corrals.
