Papal Visitors Spend Day At Valley Forge Park
By Jim Melwert
KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. (CBS) - Valley Forge National Historical Park opened its gates Friday to visitors in town for the World Meeting of Families and the Papal visit, hosting Valley Forge Family Day.
With everything from musket demonstrations, to guided walks and trolley tours, more than 600 visitors took part in the event.
Organizers say, drawing on inspiration from Pope Francis's visit, they're starting an interfaith effort, every September 25th to work to re-stock area food pantries.
"As the faith leaders came together they discovered that September and October are really bare months for food cupboards and food pantries all across our community," says Montgomery County Commissioners chairman Josh Shapiro.
Ed Harris with the Valley Forge Convention and Tourism board read an excerpt from a scroll that will be presented to Pope Francis at the Seminary:
"As our farewell gift to you, Your Holiness, we our commitment to establish this drive as an annual event throughout Montgomery County Pennsylvania."
