Pa. SPCA: Disheartening Week For Animal Lovers

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Cases of animal cruelty in the Delaware Valley have been in the headlines over the past week and are a big concern for the Pennsylvania SPCA.
A Chester Springs man faces charges for shooting and killing two of his neighbor's dogs. Reward money is bumped up for a case in January where six dead dogs were found in trash bags in South Philadelphia. And Friday night there was a raid of a Marcus Hook animal shelter with deplorable conditions.
It was a disheartening week for animal lovers says Pennsylvania SPCA spokeswoman Wendy Morano.
"As citizens and as a society we would hope that we would care for our animals. Our pets are part of the fabric of our community. They are part of our families," says Morano.
She says as they do their work to protect animals, regular citizens should do their part too.
"Often times, people think, 'Oh, it's not a big deal' or 'I'll mind my own business.' But we really all need to be the voice for the voiceless," Morano explains.
