Pa. Senate Passes Bill Asking NCAA To Keep Penn State Fine Money In-State

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) - The state Senate has passed and sent to the House a bill that seeks to require $60 million in fines being paid to the NCAA by Penn State be used for programs in Pennsylvania.
The bill on its way to the House was passed by the Senate unanimously. It is sponsored by Republican Jake Corman, whose district includes Penn State. He asked colleagues to support the measure during remarks on the Senate floor.
"This fine money, Mr. President, is coming from Pennsylvania residents. So it makes sense that it should stay here to benefit organizations and the children of the Commonwealth. The Pennsylvania Task Force On Child Protection recently issued a comprehensive report which points to many worthwhile programs in our state that could benefit greatly from the fine money."
Corman has also sued the NCAA over the allocation of fine money, and the NCAA has already agreed not to disburse any of the first $12 million payment made by Penn State while it negotiates with Corman.
