Pa. Says Keep Filing Unemployment Claims
by KYW's Tony Romeo
Even though things look bleak for an extension of emergency unemployment compensation, the Rendell administration is urging Pennsylvania recipients who've lost benefits to continue filing claims.
Another attempt to pass an unemployment extension bill in the US Senate has failed meaning a loss of benefits for $100,000 Pennsylvania residents. But state Department of Labor and Industry spokesman Troy Thompson advises those residents to keep filing anyway:
"It's very important that individuals understand that they can play a vital role in getting their benefits as soon as some type of legislation is passed by continuing to file their claims on line and using the PA Teleclaims system."
But officials ask that people not contact call centers, to free up phone lines for people filing new claims. The Teleclaims number is 1-888-255-4728.
