Pa. Lawmakers Propose Package Of Relief Measures For Flood Victims
HARRSIBURG, Pa. (CBS) - A bi-partisan group of state Senators has unveiled a package of bills to provide additional relief to flood-stricken parts of Pennsylvania.
State Senator John Gordner, a Columbia County Republican, says the first bill in the package would provide additional relief for flood victims who've exhausted the $30, 200 maximum federal benefits.
"This first bill would provide an additional $10,000 in assistance for those folks who have applied for federal assistance, meet income eligibility and have reached the maximum amount and yet still have losses out there."
Another bill would authorize $250-million for the state's share of flood-related road and bridge rehabilitation projects, while another measure would allow for real estate tax abatements. The sponsors of the legislation don't have a total price tag for the package, but say it would be paid for through a combination of surplus and unspent funds and additional borrowing. The governor's office is reviewing the proposals.
