Pa. Lawmaker Hosts Luncheon For Several Generations Of US Vets
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Some veterans in the city's Northwest got an early taste of Veterans Day on Wednesday.
More than 150 former military men and women were honored in Pennsylvania state senator LeAnna Washington's third annual Veterans' Luncheon.
"Some of these people are from World War I, II, Vietnam, places like that, and they like it," she said. "People are reunited with people that they served with in the military all those years ago."
Sen. Washington says she'd like to do more for veterans. And when asked what, she said women vets, who get overlooked.
One guest, Eugene Richardson (center of photo) -- one of the fabled Tuskegee Airmen -- says that's appropriate:
"We had one person give a talk on female veterans who are homeless, which is a dastardly shame -- that people who have served our country have to come home and live on the street."
