Pa. Consumer Group Warns Parents About Potentially Harmful Holiday Toys
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The 26th annual "Trouble in Toyland" report is out, and it stresses that there are still dangers at the local toy store.
The Elmo cell phone, for example, doesn't sound obnoxiously loud, but Alana Miller, of the Pennsylvania Public Interest Research Group (PennPIRG) says that for young children it can be a problem.
"It's hard to tell, just based on the noise a toy makes, whether or not it's going to pose a hazard," she advises, "but if it's up close to a child's ear, be careful."

Parents need to make sure toys are age-appropriate, Miller says. That information should be written on the package. If it's not, avoid the item.
Miller says improvement has been made, but there are still too many toys containing lead and other dangerous chemicals.
