According to investigators, the tractor-trailer was traveling in the northbound lanes of I-95 when the driver somehow lost control, went across the grassy median and landed on its side in the left lane of the southbound side of I-95.
The driver of the tractor-trailer is said to have fallen asleep behind the wheel, but was not seriously injured in the crash and no other cars were involved.
Fortunately, there were no serious injuries, but the accident caused a traffic nightmare for the morning commute.
Following the accident, traffic was able to squeeze by in the open southbound lanes. However, at about 9 a.m., PennDOT shut down the southbound lanes of I-95 at the Route 413 exit to upright the rig and remove it from the scene. The lanes were reopened at about 1 p.m.
The tractor-trailer was carrying hundreds of watermelons and crews had to first remove the watermelons before up-righting the tractor-trailer.
