Crews Work To Repair Guard Rail After Tanker Truck Accident Closes Westbound Lanes On Stretch Of PA Turnpike
BENSALEM, Pa. (CBS) --- The westbound lanes of the Pennsylvania Turnpike between the Delaware Valley and Bensalem exits were closed early Wednesday morning after a single vehicle accident involving a tanker truck carrying diesel fuel.
The incident happened a little after 3:30am near at milepost 352 westbound, blocking the right lane and damaging the guardrail along the right shoulder area.
A PA Turnpike spokesperson says the tanker was carrying approximately 1800 gallons of diesel fuel when it overturned, but there was no leak.
The accident occurred in a construction zone with no shoulder.
The Turnpike warns commuters to expect right lane closures in that area for much of the day as crews work to repair the guard rail. Speed limits are reduced to 55 mph in the construction zone.
Turnpike officials ask drivers to stay alert for crews working in the area and be prepared for slow moving or stopped traffic.
