Out-Of-Control Car Leaves Trail Of Destruction In Fairmount

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Residents on Poplar Street were startled shortly before midnight when a car lost control on and crashed into more than a dozen cars.
"I heard a big boom, it sounded like a dump truck crashing," said neighbor James Bankhead.
Gitau Kaggia said he had just gotten out of his car five minutes before when he heard the crashes.
"When I came downstairs, I realized it was a nightmare," said Kaggia.
Cars along the street were completely sideswiped, and many were seriously damaged.
Police say a car lost control driving eastbound on Poplar. Police believe the person may have suffered a medical condition.
"I ran up, thought it was my husband, and he was looking out the window and I was like what happened and he just couldn't even answer me, he was in shock," said neighbor Theresa Kaggia.
Kaggia said he went outside and saw that her two cars were damaged.
While folks here have a mess to deal with, everyone is glad no one was hurt.
"I think it was quite fortunate that it was a little late, not many people were walking on the street," said Gitau Kaggia.
Police say the driver was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital in stable condition.
