Out-Of-Control Car Ends Up On Train Tracks In Somerton

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police are investigating whether the wet weather may have played a role in a bizarre accident in Northeast Philadelphia early Wednesday morning.

The accident happened at about 1:30 a.m. at the Somerton SEPTA train station near Bustleton and Philmont Avenues.

According to investigators, a motorist lost control while driving on windy Station Road. The driver crashed through a fence, then went over a sidewalk and ended up on the SEPTA train tracks.

During the chaos, the driver also took out a lamp post, which was lodged under the car.

The driver was not seriously injured and there were no reports of any other injuries.

Police are investigating whether the heavy rain at the time of the accident played a role. The incident remains under investigation.
