Driver Detained After Fatal Hit-Run In Delaware County

By Tim Jimenez and Jericka Duncan

GLENOLDEN, Pa. (CBS) -- There was a fatal hit and run accident Friday night in Glenolden Borough, Delaware County. The driver, 19-year-old Maurquis Thompson of Chester, is now in police custody.

At around 9:30 p.m., police in Delaware County were chasing down a car when it reportedly blew through a red light at Chester Pike and Glenolden Avenue.

The result was fatal, as police say the car hit two 15-year-old males identified as Mike Taylor and Mark McNeill of Glenolden.

According to authorities, Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene. McNeill was transported to Crozer-Chester Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.

Police say Thompson (right) appeared to be under the influence of drugs, his eyes bloodshot and speech slurred, when Sharon Hill police officers arrested him around 10pm Friday night in Norwood Borough, where the car was also found abandoned.

The incident and following investigation closed Chester Pike for more than 2½ hours.

Kathleen Fraim says she knew both 15-year-old victims.

"Really good kids," said Fraim. "Always in school, everything."

A makeshift memorial for Taylor and McNeill now rests at the intersection they tried to cross. Friends say they were heading home.

Thompson is being held on $1 million bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 14, 2011 in Glenolden District Court.
