One Of New Jersey's Most Wanted Fugitives Arrested In Florida
FORT LAUDERDALE, F.L. (CBS) – One of New Jersey's 12 most wanted fugitives was arrested on Friday, June 8th in Broward County, Florida.
Robert Marone, 69, was arrested by detectives from the Fort Lauderdale Police Department's Fugitive Unit and Career Criminals Unit.
A concerned citizen reportedly called the New Jersey State Police (NJSP) using the Fugitive Tipline after they found out Marone had been using an alias for more than 15 years.
Authorities say the concerned citizen researched Marone on the internet and saw photos of him on the NJSP's 12 Most Wanted website.
Marone was arrested at about 2:30 p.m. and lodged in the Broward County Jail.
He was placed on New Jersey's 12 Most Wanted list back in 1995.
"The cooperative effort leading to the apprehension of Robert Marone is a excellent example of how well law enforcement can work together to accomplish a common goal," said Colonel Rick Fuentes, Superintendent of the New Jersey State Police. "We are grateful for the fast actions of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department in assisting us to close the cell doors on this two-decades-old fugitive case."
Robert Marone is wanted by the New Jersey Parole Board for violation of probation in connection with a 1971 murder conviction. He was also charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault of a child in Ocean County, N.J. in 1992.
