One Month Out, Promotion Held For Philadelphia's "Spring Cleanup"
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The City of Philadelphia's fourth annual "Philly Spring Cleanup" is one month away, and a kickoff celebration was held today in North Philadelphia.
Music, dance, songs, drums, even an early barbecue drew crowds at the Village of Arts and Humanities as mayor Michael Nutter urged residents to come out for the annual Philly Spring Cleanup.
"Keep up the Sweep-Up, April 2nd. Let's get out there, thumbs up!" he exhorted the crowd.
And streets commissioner Clarena Tolson was urging folks to set up their own cleanup projects: "Get outside. Look what needs to be done in your communities. We all need to volunteer in our own homes, our own places, where we live, in our communities. It could be a park, a rec center, a school even."
