Two Dead In Crash Along Schuylkill Expressway
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Two people are dead after an early morning crash along the Schuylkill Expressway.
The accident happened just after 6 a.m. Saturday in the westbound lanes of I-76, west of Belmont Avenue in Lower Merion Township.
Police say the driver of a Honda Accord was traveling east in the westbound lanes when it struck a Chevy Malibu head-on.
The driver of the Chevrolet, 25-year-old Christan Trueblood of Upper Darby, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Honda, 35-year-old Jamaal Moss of Richmond, Virginia, was airlifted from the scene, but died while enroute to the hospital.
Two other vehicles also crashed while trying to avoid the initial accident, but none of the other drivers or passengers were significantly injured.
The accident caused both directions of the highway to be shut down. The eastbound lanes reopened just after 8 a.m. The westbound lanes remained closed until just after 11 a.m.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
