One-Day People's Party Convention Held In Philadelphia, Days Before DNC Rolls In
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A one-day convention prior to the DNC takes place Saturday in Old City.
The People's Convention is being held from 10:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. at the Arch Street Meeting House. Jackrabbit Pollack, National Organizer for the People's Revolution said momentum for the People's Convention came from those inspired by the Bernie Sanders movement.
"I think that a lot of people who believed that their ideas are marginal, I think recognized in fact that they are legitimate to expect that their government is going to work for them instead of the corporations."
He said when they get together on Saturday, the group will ratify a people's platform of their most pressing issues.
"At the end of the day, we hope to have a document of the people's will that we want to be able to hold politicians accountable to."
So what do they hope to accomplish? Pollack admits there will most likely not be a People's Party candidate this election cycle.
"This is about building a long-term movement and building an organization that supports the kind of radical change that we need to see in our political system today," he said. "So that's something that's going to happen over time."
