On National Donut Day, Philadelphia Customers Give Thumbs Down to One Experiment
By Hadas Kuznits
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- June 7th is National Donut Day, and one establishment known for its donuts is getting creative this week.
Dunkin Donuts now offers a "glazed donut breakfast sandwich" -- egg and bacon on a glazed donut.
What do visitors to the Dunkin Donuts store at 7th and Market Streets think about the concept?
"I will never try it," said one. "I don't think sweet, bacon... it's not a good combination."
"I have friends who have tried it," said another, "but they'll probably eat anything if they eat this."
Some were only slightly more charitable:
"I mean, I love glazed donuts, but... no."
"I'm gonna say it's interesting, but I'm gonna say I think it's a little bit gross."
Others said it seems just plain messy:
"Think about it -- if you smash the sandwich down or if you hold it, it's like all that glaze on your fingertips."
"But I'm pretty sure that they're gonna make a bunch of money off of it because there's a lot of Americans that are gonna like that."
We asked Bibi Kulsum, the manager at the 7th and Market store, the question on everyone's mind: how many calories is it?
"360 calories."
And how does that compare with Dunkin's other sandwiches?
"We have a lot of different kinds of sandwiches," she said. "Some of them have more than 400, 500 calories."
Some folks were still skeptical, though:
"It's like, yeah, the calories are low, but will I gain a pound the next day?"
