On Christmas Day, An Old City Museum Opens For _________ People
By Hadas Kuznits
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A local museum is one of the few businesses open on Christmas Day. And their Christmas Day programming is actually one of their busiest days of the year!
Traditionally, there's not a lot that's open on Christmas Day, but the National Museum of American Jewish History was.
Emily August, director of public programs, explains they held their annual "Being ____ At Christmas" event.
"The blank is something that you can fill in yourself, whatever you are, whether it's Jewish, Buddhist, or a Christian who just doesn't feel like being at home. Or creative, fun, family, generous! Whatever you are on Christmas, the museum is open, and we've got a lot of fun activities for the whole family."
August says what was initially intended as a program for Jewish families has evolved into a multicultural day.
"We are also a museum for all people," she tells KYW Newsradio. "We are an American history museum, and what we aim to do is through those Jewish experiences help others connect more closely to their own heritages."
What was there to do at the museum?
"A dance party, kid-friendly comedian, arts and crafts..."
