Oldest Memorial Day Parade In The Country Marches Through Doylestown
DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (CBS) - The oldest Memorial Day parade in the country went off without a hitch in Doylestown today as thousands lined the parade, but didn't forget the true meaning of the holiday.
The annual Memorial Day parade has been winding its way through the streets of the county seat in Bucks County for 145 years. Under bright blue skies, the parade featured marching bands and floats and a tribute to the men and women who have given their lives defending our freedom.
Bob Clark of Warrington, who has been coming to the parade for twenty years, says, "It's one that you look around and you think of Rockwell when you stand around here with the architecture and the crowd -- (all the) young kids, little kids -- it's wonderful."
"It's so much fun and it's a tradition over the years. Every year, it's well attended and they put on a good show," says Bill Englehart of Doylestown.
The Doylestown Memorial Day parade wrapped up with a solemn service at a local cemetery where flags were placed on the gravestones symbolically marking the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
