Oldest Candy Store In America Reopens In Old City
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – After a short closure for renovations, Shane's Candies reopens just in time for the holidays.
Eric Berley, co-owner of Franklin Fountain expands his business from ice cream to candy. He and his brother Ryan bought Shane's Candies last year, and they plan to be ready for business on Black Friday.

Berley says they'll be keeping the name.
"That was a tough decision for us to keep the name Shane's or to call it Berley Brothers or some other iteration. We chose to respect the past and the traditions of Shane's."
And Berley adds the traditions of this shop at 110 Market Street go way back.
"Before the Shane's, it was The William Wescot Chocolate Factory and the Herring and Dangler Confectionary, going way back into 1863, the year of Gettysburg. So this is actually the oldest operating candy store in America that we know of."
The official grand opening with the Mayor takes place December 5th.
