Officials: Snow Melting, Rain Could Lead To Flooding

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) - Emergency management officials in Montgomery County are keeping a close eye on today's forecast, worried that heavy rain and rising temperatures could bring problems to some areas of the county.
The concern here isn't so much about the rivers, streams and creeks this time. But, Deputy Director of Emergency Management for Montgomery County Scott Mikalonis says you should still be aware, "Certainly if you live along one of those creeks, streams or rivers we advise to always keep an eye out on things as things can change rapidly and make sure you're prepared to move if you have to."
This time, the concern is more about urban and street flooding as temperatures in the 50's combined with the possibility of gusty thunderstorms could bring some quick melting. Mikalonis says if you can, get out early and try to clear some of those storm drains near your home.
"Due to the amount of snow we've had, there's the potential because of blocked storm drains that the water won't be able to run off in the fashion that it normally does."
He says residents should also keep an eye on their houses. There's been melting during the day and then re-freezing at night so gutters may be blocked and with heavy rain that could cause water to seep through roofs and into basements. He says the forecast can change quickly so they will put out alerts through social media.
