Officials Investigating Center City Water Main Break

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A water main break on 18th Street between Arch and Market has been brought under control, but is now effecting SEPTA service at Suburban Station.

John DiGuilio, spokesman for the Philadelphia Water Department, says the break occurred at about 11 a.m. and the main was shut off about an hour later.

It happened near the site where crews are building the new Comcast Tower.

Water department officials and the contractor are trying to find out how the break happened.

The water from the main spilled down onto the tracks at Suburban Station, causing up to 20-minute delays on all regional rails.

Officials say 18th Street between Arch and Market will be closed until at least 3 p.m.
