Officials Continue Investigation Into Death Of Philadelphia Firefighter Joyce Craig

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Representatives of the Philadelphia Fire Department are headed to Pittsburgh this weekend, as the investigation into last month's death of firefighter Joyce Craig continues.
Two members of the Philadelphia Fire Department are going to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health lab in the Steel City, where NIOSH is testing the air cylinder that firefighter Joyce Craig was wearing when she was killed in the line of duty one month ago.
"Every member wears a self-contained breathing apparatus," explains Fire Commissioner Derrick Sawyer. "And what they do is, they check the apparatus to make sure there were no breaks in the system and make sure the system was operating properly."
Craig was trapped in the burning basement of a West Oak Lane rowhouse. Sawyer says indications are that firefighters followed safety protocols:
"From the preliminary talking to the members that were involved, I think everybody did their best to not only save Joyce, but to save the lady that was in the house."
Sawyer says the department hopes to issue its findings "shortly."
