Officials Announce The Debut Of Philly's New Years Week

By Paul Kurtz

Philadelphia and Camden officials have folded a number of events during Christmas week into their annual New Years celebration.

Call it a New Years Eve warm-up in the mayor's reception room, with KYW Newsradio's Steve Nikazy leading the way. The mayor announcing that once again there will be skating at Penn's Landing and two huge fireworks displays at 6 p.m. and midnight. But this year, he says there's much, much more.

"Because our celebration, quite frankly, has become so big and takes up more than one night, we're also announcing the debut of Philly's New Years Week."

Beginning on December 26th, Greater Philadelphia Tourism and Marketing CEO Meryl Levitz says there will be everything from light shows to stage shows, museum attractions and a big sporting event.

"The Winter Classic Hockey game between the Flyers and Rangers at Citizens Bank Park," said Levitz.
