Official: Crew Hits Gas Line, Causes Leak In Allentown
ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) — An eastern Pennsylvania fire official says people will still be kept from their homes for a few more hours while a utility completes repairs to a ruptured gas line in Allentown.
Crews responded to a report of gas at about 10 a.m. Tuesday after a subcontractor accidentally hit a gas line. They blocked off an area of about five blocks, asking residents to leave a few homes and businesses
Capt. John Christopher says UGI Utilities will be capping the line on each side before repairing the damaged section, and residents of the eight to 10 homes will be kept away until that is done. Officials also evacuated two employees at a daycare.
Utility regional business development director Becky Eshbach earlier said the venting of the gas had been controlled.
