1 Sought, 2 In Custody After ATF Agent Injured In Delaware County
By Todd Quinones
MEDIA, Pa., (CBS) – A chaotic scene -- police scrambling across parts of Delaware County searching for suspects who fled an undercover drug investigation.
On the ground, police sirens were routinely heard along Baltimore Avenue near the 476 interchange in Springfield.
The suspects fled on foot after ditching their vehicle here on the on ramp to 476 south.
Chopper 3 was over the scene as officers surrounded and searched a SEPTA bus on Chester Road in Swarthmore for the suspects.
It turns out the suspects were not on the bus and the bus was cleared.
This all started here, in the back of the Raven Motel in Media.
At around 4 p.m. Friday evening during what's being described as a joint federal and county drug investigation, three suspects fled in a vehicle after refusing officers' commands to stop.
Authorities contend an ATF agent shot at the vehicle as one suspect drove at a high rate of speed towards the agent.
That agent was injured as he evaded the vehicle.
David Hollingsworth was working the front desk of the motel at the time.
"The silver sedan had front end damage, looks like it got hit pretty hard on the side, and there is a garden retaining wall that got smashed pretty good," he said.
As they fled on Baltimore Pike, the suspects also smashed into two other vehicles.
One of those drivers' was injured and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The suspects then abandoned their vehicle just before they merged onto 476 southbound.
The ATF agent was taken to the hospital and treated with minor injuries.
Two of the suspects have been caught.
Police are still looking for a third man who is described as a heavy-set African American male with a beard wearing a lime green shirt.
The ATF would not say if they consider the suspect armed.
