Of Course There Will Be Flooding, Says Pennsylvania Hydrology Expert

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (CBS) - As Hurricane Irene approaches, be prepared -- there will be flooding.

August has already had record rainfall, and this weekend is to be another soaker.

Michael Gooseff, associate professor of civil engineering at Penn State University, says the ground is already saturated. But even under the best conditions, he says, Irene's expected downpour would be a problem.

"A quick eight inches is definitely a problem because, for the most part, there are few soils that can really -- unless they're very well drained -- accept a quick eight inches."

He says a normal storm dumps only one or two inches of rain.
