Odds Of Picking A Perfect Bracket? 9.2 Quintillion To 1
(CBS) Ever wonder if you could pick a perfect bracket?
Don't count on it. According to Jeff Bergen, DePaul University professor of mathematics and a lifelong collegiate basketball fan, if you knew nothing about basketball and randomly filled out a bracket, your odds would be 9.2 quintillion to one.
Now, if you know a little about basketball, your odds greatly increase, but they are still 128 billion to one. To put that into perspective, Bergen says that if every single person in America had basketball knowledge and filled out a bracket, there would still only be one quarter of one percent chance that someone would have a perfect bracket.
