NYC Mayor Bloomberg Endorses Sestak for US Senate
New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg was in town today, endorsing Democratic candidate Joe Sestak in his run for US Senate.
KYW's Mike DeNardo reports that Bloomberg -- the Democrat turned Republican turned Independent -- stood at Progress Plaza in North Philadelphia to endorse Rep. Joe Sestak (D-Pa.) for the US Senate seat now held by Democrat-turned-Republican-turned-Democrat Arlen Specter:
Said Bloomberg:
"A vote for Joe is a vote for leadership. A vote for Joe is a vote for independence. And a vote for Joe is a vote for the results that our nation so desperately needs."
Sestak is running against Republican congressman Pat Toomey.
Bloomberg said he support's Sestak's efforts on gun control and expanding small business incentives. The two also agree on the emotional issue of allowing a mosque near Ground Zero. Bloomberg says prohibiting the mosque would take away the freedoms that US troops are fighting for.
In response to the endorsement, Toomey campaign communications director Nachama Soloveichik issued the following statement:
"An endorsement from a New York City mayor and a Yankees fan can't hide the fact that Joe Sestak voted with Nancy Pelosi 100 percent of the time. The only time Joe Sestak has stood up to his own party is when he thought they weren't spending enough. In contrast, Pat Toomey stood up to Republicans and Democrats when he thought they were spending too much money."
