Nutter And Street Cast Votes, Urge People To Vote
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The democratic hopefuls for mayor cast their votes early Tuesday morning.
Mayor Michael Nutter cast his vote at the John C. Anderson Cultural Center on Overbrook Avenue, and with predictions of extremely low turnout he has this message for city residents.
"Come out and vote. Voting is a part of civic duty and responsibility. It's part of being a Philadelphian and an American," Nutter said. "I mean it's not a monsoon out here so we want to encourage people to come out."
Nutter's opponent in the democratic primary, Milton Street, also cast his vote Tuesday morning in the city's Mayfair neighborhood.
"I feel great. I feel like we've run a very strong campaign. Our message has resonated across the city," Street said. "We'll see tonight when the vote comes in, then we'll see who took us seriously and who didn't, won't we?"
Turnout is expected to be low in the city (see related story). Many forecasters are saying it could be well under 20 percent.
