Nutter Administration Restarts 'PhillyStat,' Data-Driven City Management Tool
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - City Hall's "PhillyStat" data collection and analysis system, which had gone offline for a year, is back.
Mayor Michael Nutter has relaunched the management tool and held the administration's first public review meeting today.
During quarterly meetings, say officials, there will be a high-level review of the mayor's goals, which include core areas like public safety, education, and jobs, in a greener, more sustainable Philadelphia with a healthy business climate.
Mayor Nutter says there are two types of PhillyStat meetings: "outcomes," focused on broad goals, and "ops," centering on day-to-day operations.
"This is about doing it in an efficient manner, in a transparent fashion, in a measurable way," the mayor said. "If you can't measure it, you can't manage it," he added.
The central topic at today's PhillyStat meeting was police department performance metrics.
Police commissioner Charles Ramsey says Philadelphia's 2010 homicide rate was fourth highest among peer cities.
'Twenty-one point three per 100,000," he reported to the mayor, "so we've got a lot of work ahead of us to cut that down and make this a much safer city."
Year to date, the homicide clearance rate is 64 percent, but they're shooting for 80 percent.
