Nova, Temple, St. Joe's Learn NCAA Tourney Fates
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - It's that time of year again!
March Madness has arrived, and three local schools were paying close attention Sunday to see what lies ahead.
The Villanova Wildcats will be a two seed in the South Region and will play their first game Friday in Brooklyn against 15th seed UNC Asheville.
Villanova's hopes of being a #1 ended Saturday with a Big East Tournament loss to Seton Hall.
The Temple Owls learned their fate right after the Wildcats. That's because the Owls will play Friday in Brooklyn as well, in the South Region as a 10th seed against 7th seed Iowa.
Like Villanova, Temple lost Saturday in their tournament, falling to UConn in the AAC semifinal.
If Temple and Villanova win their first games, the two schools would meet Sunday in Brooklyn.
The St. Joe's Hawks will also be playing Friday. They were selected as an 8th seed in the West Region. Their first opponent will be 9th seed Cincinnati in Spokane.
Villanova and St. Joe's knew they were in before the selections were made. The Hawks punched their ticket earlier in the day Sunday by winning the A-10 Championship.
For both schools, it was a matter of when and where, not if.
That wasn't the case for the Owls, who were watching closely Sunday to see if they, too, would be joining their Big Five rivals.
