Not Running For Mayor Again, Sam Katz Appointed To PICA Board

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Sam Katz, who ran three times unsuccessfully for mayor, now will be one of the people keeping a watchful eye on mayor Michael Nutter's budget. Katz has accepted an appointment from the new Governor.

Katz has been chosen by Governor Tom Corbett to serve on the Pennsylvania Intergovernmental Cooperation Authority board, the state agency that must sign off each year on Philadelphia's long-range budget. Last fall Katz decided against running for mayor this year.

We asked Mayor Nutter if he feared Katz might let political ambitions impact his role on PICA:

"I do not believe so, because Sam is a person that has the city's best interests at heart."

As the governor's appointee, Katz is expected to be named chairman of the PICA board. Katz was out of the country and unavailable for comment.
