North Philadelphia Church Focuses On Community With Annual Procession
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A small church that has called North Philadelphia home for 140 years held their annual May procession for the Blessed Mother on Friday.
Despite tough economic times, St. Veronica's is trying to keep things in perspective. The Church has called North Philadelphia home since it consisted of only a few barns and farmhouses, and despite the tough economic times that St. Veronica's and many other local Catholic schools are facing, the church is trying to keep the focus on community.
As parishoner Eddie Delgado says, in times like these, events like the procession are key: "This city is like upside down. We need a lot of prayer....we need a lot of prayer right now."
A film production company was on hand at the ceremonies as part of a documentary entitled "St. Veronica's: A Legacy." The film hopes to raise awareness about the financial plight of the church and its value to the community.
