Norristown Man Gets 22 Years In Prison For 'Horrifying' Attack On Bar Manager

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A 35-year-old Norristown man has been sentenced to 22 years in prison for kidnapping and assaulting a local bar manager as part of a ruthless 2011 robbery plot.
Federal authorities call the defendant a career criminal who, as a juvenile, once shot another person in the face.
Marc Viney was convicted by a jury.
Prosecutor Rebecca Strubel, who argued in court for an even longer sentence, says an armed Viney stalked and then kidnapped the victim after following him home.
Viney beat, terrorized, restrained, blindfolded and robbed the victim then forced him into a car; drove him while blindfolded and battered to the Roo House Tavern and ransacked the business.
"The facts of this case, I submit, are horrifying," Strubel said. "It's a 61-year-old innocent victim, bar manager, who worked at his father's bar. You heard testimony from the victim at trial that he's still traumatized, two years later he no longer lives in Norristown."
Strubel says the victim, still bound, ran away while Viney was in the bar, possibly saving his life.
