No Vacancy At Philly Hotels This Weekend As Events Converge
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- If you are looking for a hotel room in Philly this weekend, it's going to be a challenge.
And similar hotel room shortages are going to crop up again in the near future.
The city will be buzzing this weekend, according to Jack Ferguson, incoming president of the Philadelphia Convention and Visitor's Bureau.
"We have two wonderful events going on: the Philadelphia Marathon, with 23,000 runners that are going to be running on Sunday, and on top of that we have a major convention of 10,000 attendees of the American Society of Speech, Language, and Hearing occupying about 13,000 rooms in total -- bringing 23 million dollars in economic impact," he explains.
That economic impact includes the retail stores, bars, restaurants, tours, museums, and more.
The weekend of December 11-12 is likely to be similarly crowded. The Army-Navy Game is December 11th, and that same weekend a major cell biology convention comes to town.
But once the Convention Center expansion is done, look for additional hotels large and small to be constructed. We're going to need them to handle the volume.
