No Proposals For City Tavern
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Over the summer, the National Park Service announced they were accepting proposals from other proprietors for the space currently occupied by City Tavern, converting the current concession contract to a lease (see previous story).
Jane Cowley, Independence National Historical Park spokesperson, said the deadline to submit those proposals was Friday, September 23rd.
"Well, as it turns out, no one submitted a responsive proposal to the leasing opportunity at City Tavern."
The current proprietor of City Tavern, Chef Walter Staib, did not even sumbit a proposal according to Cowley.
So, what happens next?
"We have concession and leasing specialists that work for the National Park Service in the northeast region who will work with the superientendent of the Independence National Historical Park. They will look into what our options are and we hope to make a decision in the near future as how to move forward," Cowley said.
They hope for a solution for the space within a couple of weeks. Cowley said it it too soon to say anything as to whether Staib will be considered in the options.
