No Plans Yet To Reopen Franklin Square PATCO Station

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - As the Delaware River Port Authority reconsiders plans to build a bicycle and pedestrian ramp on the Camden side of the Ben Franklin Bridge, those on the Philly side would like the DRPA to consider reopening its PATCO station at 6th and Race Streets.
The PATCO station at 6th and Race Streets, at the base of the Ben Franklin Bridge in Old City, has been closed for more than 30 years. The station is under Franklin Square Park maintained by Historic Philadelphia Inc.
"The station has been closed since 1979 and we would be delighted if it was re-opened," Historic Philadelphia CEO Amy Needle says. "We know people come from New Jersey all the time to Franklin Square. We have people not only from New Jersey, but also from Center City to use it as a connector."
Franklin Square was redeveloped more than five years ago.
The next DRPA board meeting is scheduled for next week.
