NJ Woman Falls Down Elevator Shaft At Fenway Park

BRIGANTINE, N.J. (CBS) -- A family celebration at Fenway Park in Boston turned tragic this weekend when a 22-year-old woman somehow fell into an open elevator shaft.
According to the 911 recordings, "We have one person who fell approximately three floors onto the top of the elevator car."
The victim is Lizzy Scotland and she's from Brigantine, New Jersey. She had just graduated from Boston University's Business School.
She and her father, who was up visiting for the graduation, decided to take in a Red Sox game Friday night.
According to authorities, as the crowd was leaving the park, the door to the elevator opened on the fourth floor but there was no car. Scotland fell in and suffered serious injuries.
Steve MacDonald of the Boston Fire Department said, "We estimated she had fallen anywhere from 20-30 feet. The firefighters went to the upper floors and were able to look down and see her, you know, she was not moving. We worked to get the woman into this flexible stretcher, strap her in and lower it down."
Lizzy Scotland's father, John, is not only is the pastor of community Presbyterian, but he also helped start Brigantine's long term Sandy relief organization. He also runs Sister Jean's Soup Kitchen in Atlantic City, where employees were saddened by the news of the accident.
Edward Miller said, "Great people, great people, very well mannered, they were brought up well in a good community, never had anything bad to say about anybody, always respectful. We're going to pray for them, the whole family and I just hope she comes out better."
On Tuesday, the Scotland family's lawyer released the following statement:
"The Scotland family appreciates the many expressions of concern and support that have come from the Boston community and the Red Sox organization. They acknowledge with gratitude the outpouring of love and support from their South Jersey community. They want to thank the
Boston Police and Fire Departments for their response to this event. They appreciate as well the exceptional care that Lizzy is receiving at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
At this time Lizzy continues to receive medical and surgical care and attention at Beth Israel; her condition is serious and her prognosis is uncertain. The family requests that both the media and general public respect their privacy at this time. While more information will follow at a later date, the family will have no further comment at this time."
