NJ Transit Looks At Long-Range Option To Improve Bus Service To Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- New Jersey Transit is looking at a long-range plan that would give buses dedicated lanes along some heavily-traveled routes into Philadelphia.
Nothing is final yet, but New Jersey Transit is exploring the idea of a $46-million "bus rapid transit" system between Philadelphia City Hall, and Camden and Gloucester Counties.
New Jersey Transit spokesman John Durso, Junior says buses would travel in their own lanes along Routes 55, 42 and 676.
"It would allow buses to travel in dedicated lanes which would be given traffic signal priority," says Durso. "And help speed the commute between South Jersey and Philadelphia."
The plan would expand the Winslow Park-and-Ride lot, as well as a lot in Deptford.
It's being presented to the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission to allow for possible federal money.
If it gets the okay, and the funding, the system could be in place by 2020.
