NJ Senate President Steve Sweeney Urges Governor To Approve Internet Gaming Measure

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - There's a push on Governor Chris Christie to approve a measure now on his desk that would legalize online wagering within the borders of New Jersey.
If the idea sounds a little familiar to you, it should. We were down this road about a year ago. Senate President Steve Sweeney is one of four Democrats urging the governor in a letter not to let history repeat itself.
"He vetoed this bill before and we sent it back and we're hoping he recognizes that Atlantic City can use this help, that Atlantic City benefits the entire state."
And given Nevada, and closer to home Delaware, are working to implement internet gaming, New Jersey had better jump on board. This measure, like the last one, would set up servers at the 12 casinos. Play would be restricted to within New Jersey, and residents would have to sign up to bet on line.
There was no comment from the Governor's office.
