NJ Sen. Lautenberg Says His Cancer is Gone
by KYW's Ian Bush
US senator Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey says he is now cancer-free.
The 86-year-old Democrat (in January 2010 file photo at right) says his doctor told him last week that "it's gone, Frank."
Lautenberg was hospitalized in February after falling in his home. He was treated for a bleeding ulcer, and doctors found B-cell lymphoma in his stomach.
He began chemotherapy treatment and returned to the Senate in early March.
With the death early this morning of Sen. Robert Byrd (see related story), Lautenberg now becomes the oldest member in the upper house of Congress.
