NJ Robber Gets Life Sentence Under '3 Strikes' Law
TOMS RIVER, N.J. (AP) — A southern New Jersey man with a long criminal record has been sentenced to life in prison for armed robbery.
Ocean County prosecutors say 46-year-old Antonio Jones of Lakewood received the term under the state's "Three Strikes" law. The sentence was handed down late Friday and made public on Monday.
Jones had been convicted in February on armed robbery and obstruction charges stemming from a February 2012 street robbery in Lakewood. He was captured by police a short time later following a brief foot pursuit.
Jones was convicted of armed robbery in Massachusetts in 1987. Two years later, he was convicted in Connecticut on kidnapping, robbery, sex assault and escape charges.
