NJ Man Tries To Ignite "Draft Christie For President" Movement

TRENTON, NJ (CBS) -- New Jersey governor Chris Christie has said time and time again that he has no interest in running for president in 2012.  But a onetime Republican operative has cranked up a web site hoping to convince him to reconsider.

Former New Jersey Assembly executive director turned publicist Donald Sico is behind the web site draftchristie2012.com, which went online for the first time Thursday.

His goal, he says, is to get thousands of digital supporters behind the effort, which he thinks could take about a year.

As for Christie's insistence that he has no aspirations to go to Washington, Sico offers this suggestion:

"If he takes a look at Washington and the mess down there and then looks at his three children and sees the future that they have in front of them, I think we can make him reach a different conclusion."

Sico says there is precedent for this, looking back to former New Jersey governor Woodrow Wilson who, in the second year of his first term a century ago, was convinced to run for the White House -- becoming the nation's 28th president.
